4 days 3 nights at Kota Kinabalu : Places and food to visit (Day 1)

Hello lovelies! Im back to blog about a 4 days 3 nights trip I just had few days ago to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. It was one of our first trip 'over-the-sea' and we were very excited about it, despite hesitated for quite some time. Initially we thought of cancelling our trip there having to see the disaster that had occurred towards our beloved Kota Kinabalu but anyway, I made it there and came back safe and sound. :)

I will be dividing my KK trip into two blog posts, focusing mainly on places I went and food I had including the expenditures i spent throughout the journey. So, bare with me.

We bought our AA tickets (PG - KK) few months ago, which cost us RM230 per pax. I think its not cheap, is it?

We reached there around 2pm and our pick to stay at KK is at Borneo Swiss Guesthouse which cost us RM95 per night for a deluxe room.  Once we checked in, we quickly proceeded as according to plan which is to eat, eat and eat. Since our stay at BSG is quite near to a few hot spots of food in list, we decided to not rent a car on the first day and just walk instead to the nearby town. 

Fatt Kee Seafood Restaurant

Tomato soup fish vermicelli at Fatt Kee Seafood Restaurant is something that you should not miss! The sourly but not too sourly soup based will surely create an appetite for food lover like you. They are quite generous with the amount of fish given which I think it's quite reflective towards its price.

Moving on to next station, which is

Kedai Kopi Janggut

Tomyam fish vermicelli is our next pick since both of the shops are located a stones throw away, probably about 3 mins walking distance (YES, IT IS). Their tomyam is quite unique in comparison with our Penang tomyam here, where the taste are less bit of sour and spicy but more towards a curry kind of soup paste. I would prefer Penang tomyam to be honest, however, whats worth visiting this shop is probably their fried toufu! It was heavenly good, with bits of meat in its soft and tender toufu with nice fragrance too. Dont be fooled by the simple and decent look of it though.

Both of these cost RM19.60

Our first day was merely just to eat, so we then proceeded to our next stop which is another town by walking about 20 minutes to fill up our tummy for late tea break.

Uncle Biscuit Bakery
(Damai Plaza Block D (Lorong Pokok Kayu Manis, Lot 23), 88300 Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia)

Damn sad talking about this, while walking half way it suddenly rained heavily but we just couldn't stop walking and exploring. So both of us walked under an umbrella with our handphone on set of Waze, damn romantic sia and finally we reached this bakery shop. To my amaze, probably I set too much high expectation on it, and it ended up just quite normal and does not worth my walking and sweating (i mean rain dripping)  :(

Cheese pancake RM1.90

According to others, visiting Uncle Biscuit Bakery is a must to try their durian and cheese pancake as shown above. I dont eat durian so I only tried their cheese pancake and it tastes like those childhood sponge cake that mum used to buy for me at market with those pandan, vanilla flavour. Nothing much to be fancied.

Kopi Ping Cafe

It happened that Kopi Ping Cafe is nearby the area, walking distance in less than 5 minutes so we took a sip of their coffee there. Remember to try their fish sauce fried vermicelli though, although we did not manage to try it cause we were too full to noomm any food already. Let me know how does it tastes like!

We wanted to visit Tanjung Aru accordance to our itinerary, however due to rainy weather there is no Sun for us to set. So we ended up going to nearby mini marts and grab some snacks and mee cups for our supper back at our room. Not forgetting grabbing their fresh milk all the way from Kundasang cow lololol at nearby mini mart.
